Welcome to the School of American Mah Jongg (“SOAM,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
By purchasing, enrolling in, accessing, or using a SOAM course, program, service, website, or downloadable material, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy, along with any additional terms, policies, agreements, or program requirements that apply to the specific product or service you purchase or use.
If you do not agree to these terms, please do not purchase or use our services.
SOAM provides educational programs and services related to American Mah Jongg, which may include online courses, instructor accreditation programs, live or recorded instruction, downloadable educational materials, assessments, examinations, teaching practicums, coaching, and other educational resources.
Specific courses or programs may have their own requirements, access periods, completion deadlines, assessment standards, or participation requirements. Those requirements will be communicated through the applicable course description, program materials, Guidebook, agreement, or other information provided to the learner.
Enrollment or purchase does not guarantee successful completion, accreditation, certification, or any particular professional or financial outcome.
Upon purchase or enrollment, learners receive access to the content and services included with the applicable course or program. This may include video lessons, downloadable files, live virtual sessions, recorded sessions, assessments, or other educational materials.
Access periods vary by course or program. Learners are responsible for reviewing and complying with the access period and completion requirements applicable to their enrollment.
Login credentials and course access are provided for the enrolled learner and may not be shared with another person.
Unless otherwise stated, prices are listed in U.S. dollars (USD), and payment is required according to the payment terms presented at the time of purchase.
SOAM reserves the right to change pricing, promotions, course offerings, or payment options at any time. Changes will not alter the price of a purchase already completed unless otherwise agreed with the learner.
Learners are responsible for providing accurate billing and payment information.
Because SOAM courses and programs generally provide access to digital educational content and proprietary materials upon enrollment, purchases are subject to SOAM's Refund & Money-Back Guarantee Policy.
Learners should review that policy before purchasing. It explains SOAM's policies regarding refunds, withdrawals, non-completion, unsuccessful assessments or practicums, duplicate or erroneous payments, and exceptional circumstances.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights or remedies that cannot legally be waived under applicable law.
Unless otherwise expressly stated, SOAM course content and educational materials—including videos, written lessons, presentations, graphics, assessments, examinations, handouts, downloads, instructional resources, program structures, and other proprietary materials—are owned by or licensed to The Mahj Connection, LLC d/b/a School of American Mah Jongg and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
Course enrollment or purchase does not transfer ownership of SOAM intellectual property to the learner.
Except where SOAM expressly grants permission, materials may not be copied, reproduced, republished, uploaded, distributed, sold, sublicensed, modified, adapted, transmitted, or shared with others without prior written authorization from SOAM.
Certain SOAM accreditation programs may expressly authorize successfully accredited instructors to use designated instructional materials in their own teaching practice.
Any such permission applies only to materials specifically identified by SOAM as approved for instructor use and remains subject to the usage rights, limitations, accreditation requirements, and branding guidelines provided with the applicable program.
Permission to use designated instructor materials does not authorize copying, sharing, reproducing, publishing, selling, modifying, or distributing the remainder of the SOAM course, examinations, answer keys, proprietary training content, or other protected materials.
Where a specific accreditation agreement, Guidebook, licensing provision, or written permission establishes additional or different usage terms, those specific terms will apply to the designated materials.
SOAM is committed to maintaining a professional, respectful, and welcoming learning environment.
Learners participating in live sessions, online communities, practicums, coaching sessions, or other interactive SOAM activities are expected to communicate and behave respectfully toward instructors, staff, fellow learners, and other participants.
Harassment, abusive conduct, deliberate disruption, unauthorized sharing of course materials, academic dishonesty, or other conduct that substantially interferes with SOAM programs may result in removal from an activity or, when warranted, suspension or termination of course access.
Any action taken will be considered in light of the circumstances and applicable SOAM policies.
Some courses and programs may include live virtual instruction, coaching, meetings, or other online sessions.
Learners are responsible for attending scheduled sessions when required and for participating in a manner consistent with applicable program expectations.
SOAM may establish reasonable participation requirements for live sessions, including requirements related to audio, video, classroom interaction, professionalism, or technology when necessary for instruction or assessment.
Learners are responsible for maintaining the equipment, software, internet connection, email access, and other technology reasonably necessary to participate in their course or program.
SOAM is not responsible for technical problems arising from a learner's equipment, internet service, device settings, third-party software, or other circumstances outside SOAM's reasonable control.
SOAM will make reasonable efforts to address technical issues involving systems or services under its control.
SOAM may use third-party platforms and service providers for course delivery, payments, scheduling, email, video conferencing, forms, file storage, and other business or educational functions.
Use of those services may also be subject to the third party's own terms and privacy practices.
SOAM is not responsible for interruptions, changes, or failures of third-party services outside its reasonable control.
American Mah Jongg rules, publications, instructional resources, technology, and professional standards may change over time. SOAM may therefore update course content, program requirements, instructional materials, assessments, or other resources when reasonably necessary to maintain accuracy, quality, or current standards.
SOAM may also modify these Terms of Service or other policies when necessary. The current version and effective date will be posted on the SOAM website.
Where a change materially affects an enrolled learner's existing program requirements, SOAM will make reasonable efforts to communicate the change appropriately.
Where a SOAM program leads to instructor accreditation or another credential, the credential is awarded only after the learner successfully completes all requirements established for that program.
SOAM does not guarantee that enrollment will result in accreditation. Learners are responsible for meeting applicable coursework, assessment, examination, practicum, conduct, and other program requirements.
Accreditation may also be subject to renewal, continuing requirements, standards of conduct, and other conditions described in the applicable accreditation materials.
SOAM may provide educational information related to teaching, professional development, marketing, business practices, or building an American Mah Jongg teaching practice.
SOAM does not guarantee employment, students, bookings, income, business growth, or any specific financial or professional result from participation in its programs.
Individual results depend on numerous factors outside SOAM's control.
SOAM strives to provide accurate, high-quality educational content and services. However, learners remain responsible for how they apply information obtained through SOAM programs and for complying with laws, regulations, rules, venue requirements, and other obligations applicable to their own activities.
To the extent permitted by law, SOAM is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising from circumstances outside its reasonable control or from a learner's independent use or application of course information.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by law.
SOAM may suspend or terminate access when reasonably necessary because of serious or repeated violations of these Terms, unauthorized sharing or misuse of proprietary materials, fraudulent activity, abusive or disruptive conduct, nonpayment, or violations of applicable program agreements or standards.
Where appropriate, SOAM may first provide notice and an opportunity to address the concern. Serious circumstances may require immediate action.
Termination or suspension does not automatically create a right to a refund. Any refund determination will be made in accordance with SOAM's Refund & Money-Back Guarantee Policy and applicable law.
Learners are encouraged to contact SOAM with questions or concerns regarding their course, program, or these Terms.
Formal complaints may be submitted and will be addressed in accordance with SOAM's Complaints Policy.
