Welcome!
I'm Debbie Barnett, a Certified Instructor and the Creator of The School of American Mah Jongg. With over 40 years of playing and 20 years of teaching experience, you can feel confident that you're in good hands. My goal is to ensure that you not only learn how to play Mah Jongg, but that you finish this course ready to play at a beginner level with confidence.
This course follows a structured learning path that builds your skills step by step. Each lesson includes a short instructional video followed by a quick quiz to reinforce key concepts.
To support your learning, we’ll hold periodic Zoom meetings where you can ask questions about the lessons you’ve completed. If you’re unable to attend live, you’re welcome to request a recording via email. You can also join any future Zoom meetings, and—if time permits—we can go over questions from previous sessions. Please note that priority will be given to the most recent lesson reviews.
At the end of the course, you’ll have the chance to participate in an interactive online Mah Jongg game, where I’ll coach you through real-time play.
By the time you complete the course, you’ll be ready to join a table and play in person at a beginner level!
Enjoy the journey, and remember—I'm here to support you every step of the way. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me.
Happy learning!
Debbie Barnett
